THE ANGELUS
In the Angelus, we recall the incarnation of Christ and are reminded of Mary's acceptance of God's will. It is prayed a 6 am, 12pm, and 6 pm.
C. The Angel of the Lord declared unto Mary...
R. ...And she concieved of the Holy Spirit.
C. Hail Mary full of grace, the Lord is with thee, blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus.
R. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
C. Behold the handmaid of the Lord...
R. Be it done unto me according to thy word.
C. Hail Mary....
R. Holy Mary...
C. And the Word was made flesh...
A. And dwelt among us.
C. Hail Mary...
R. Holy Mary...
C. Pray for us, O holy Mother of God...
A. That we be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
Pour forth we beseech Thee, O Lord, Thy grace into our hearts; that we to whom the incarnation of Christ, Thy Son, was made known by the message of an angel, may by His Passion and Cross, be brought to the glory of His Resurrection, through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.
THE ROSARY
The Rosary is a meditative prayer in which one reflects of the mysteries of Christ's life while praying the Hail Mary and the Our Father. There are four groups of mysteries upon which to reflect - Joyful Mysteries, Luminous Mysteries, Sorrowful Mysteries, Glorious Mysteries. A common practice is to pray the Joyful Mysteries on Monday and Saturday, the Sorrowful Mysteries on Tuesday and Friday, the Glorious Mysteries on Wednesday and Sunday, and the Luminous Mysteries on Thursday (with this exception - pray the Joyful Mysteries on Sundays during Christmas Season and the Sorrowful Mysteries on Sundays during Lent).
The follow steps provide a guide to praying the Rosary.
1. Make the Sign of the Cross and pray the Apostles Creed.
2. Pray the Our Father.
3. Pray three Hail Mary's
4. Pray the Glory be to the Father
5. Announce the first mystery and Pray the Our Father
6. Pray ten Hail Mary's
7. Pray the Glory be to the Father
8. Repeat 5, 6, and 7 for each of the mysteries.
After each decade, say the following prayer requested by the blessed Mother when she appeared at Fatima: "O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell, lead all souls to Heaven, especially those who have most need of your mercy."
After reciting the Rosary, many people pray, "Hail Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy, our life, our sweetness, and our hope! To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve, to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us; and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet virgin Mary. Pray for us, O holy Mother of God. That may be made worthy of the promises of Christ."
Joyful Mysteries - The Annunciation, The Visitation, The Birth of Jesus, The Presentation, The Finding of Jesus at the Temple.
Luminous Mysteries - The Baptism, The Wedding of Cana, The Proclaimation of the Kingdom of God, The Transfiguration, The Institution of the Eucharist.
Sorrowful Mysteries - The Agony in the Garden, The Scourge at the Pillar, The Crowning with Thorns, The Carrying of the Cross, The Crucifixion.
Glorious Mysteries - The Resurrection, The Ascention, The Decent of the Holy Spirit, The Assumption, The Coronation.
